The National Bank of Belgium (NBB) is recruiting a financial economist (F/M) for its Prudential Policy and Financial Stability department. This department contributes to the identification, analysis and limitation of risks in the Belgian and international financial system, by building up expertise at both microprudential and macroprudential level and in close cooperation with the microprudential supervisors. It also makes an important contribution to the work of the NBB within the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and in international fora.
The vacancy is situated in the Structural Developments and Risk Assessment group, which undertakes analyses in various domains related to the banking industry, financial regulations and the financial markets. Recent focal points of the group’s work have been structural reforms in the banking sector, measures of systemic importance, systemic risk, macroprudential instruments, banks’ liquidity positions, stress testing, banks’ asset encumbrance and internal credit risk models.

The financial economist works together with microprudential supervisors. He:
  • undertakes analyses with a focus on risk assessment and financial soundness of financial institutions and the financial sector
  • oversees compliance with prudential regulation by financial institutions
  • involves in the development of regulation and prudential supervision policy for the financial sector.

Wat verwachten we van jou

The ideal candidate should:
  • hold a Master's degree or PhD in (Applied) Economic Sciences, Finance or Commercial Engineering
  • have experience of research work, or relevant experience in the financial sector
  • have good knowledge of banking and financial legislation
  • take an interest in policy aspects
  • have good knowledge of English, Dutch and French
  • be willing to work in an international context
  • be able to work independently, but also willing to work as a part of a team in a multidisciplinary context
  • demonstrate adaptability and a sense of interpersonal skills
  • have strong analytical skills and a sense of synthesis
  • be able to communicate well
  • have a sense of initiative and organisation
  • be assertive and possess reasoning and persuasion skills
  • be immune to stress
  • pay particular attention to professional standards and confidentiality.

Depuis sa création en 1850, la Banque nationale de Belgique est la banque centrale du pays. Toutefois, elle n'est pas une institution publique, mais une S.A. autonome. L'Etat belge possède la moitié des actions, le reste est dans les mains d'actionnaires privés.  Depuis 1999, la Banque nationale fait partie de l'Eurosystème, composé de toutes les banques centrales de la zone euro ainsi que de la Banque Centrale Européenne (BCE). En cette qualité, elle est responsable de la politique monétaire et de la stabilité des prix.

D'autre part, elle prête de l'argent aux banques et à d'autres organismes financiers et elle les contrôle. Elle conserve les comptes annuels des entreprises belges. Elle collecte des données sur les crédits aux entreprises et aux particuliers. Enfin, elle gère des banques de données contenant des statistiques économiques.
